Usher's 2004 Jive album, "Confessions," has shifted 9.4 million copies in
the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, but tentative release
dates keep coming and going for its follow-up, which is now nebulously
slated for sometime this year.
"He has been taking a pretty long time to put it
out, but I think he's ready now," says Jermaine Dupri, who has worked
closely with Usher for years but scaled back his contributions to the new
album after taking the reins of Island's urban music department.
"The last couple times I've been around [him], you could tell he's got the
bug to hurry up and put this record out. He wants to get back out here and
give the people that. He's got that itch."
Dupri is known to have produced the track "The Realest," which was at one
time mentioned as a possible first single. T-Pain produced "All the Time,"
while Ludacris guests on "Dat Girl Right There," which leaked last month.
Dre & Vidal and Cool and Dre are also said to have contributed to the
album.
Dupri declined to reveal other specifics to Track, but conceded with a
laugh, "I know that I've done my songs and I know that my songs on his
record are crazy."

Usher - As yet untitled, due spring
What's the Deal: "There’s a lack of substance in music right now," says
R&B hitmaker Usher. But his fifth album has the cure: positive-message songs,
like the pro-gentlemen "Chivalry," and "Here I Stand," about “the valor of a
man."
Why We're Excited: Planned collaborators include Jay-Z, Ludacris, Beyoncé
and T-Pain. "I am the consummate entertainer," Usher says. "I’m going around the
globe to work with the greatest."
Behind the Music: Married, with a lil’ Usher on the way, the bedroom
bandit insists he’s changed: "I’m stepping away from the out-all-night,
find-a-woman-and-leave-when-it’s-through type of dude. You can only spend so
much time in the club, you dig?"

Usher Thinks He's Super Dad
Source: Hollyscoop.com Date: December 28, 2007
Usher hasn't even been a dad for 3 months and he already thinks he is
super dad. He admits that after the birth of his son he completely turned
his life around becoming a family man.
He says, "I'm really like super dad. Really. I really cook for the family.
Now I basically do chicken and broccoli and steamed vegetables, because
I'm on this diet. But believe me, I can fry some chicken too...
"I really clean up. I walk the dog, myself. I burp the baby. I change the
diapers. I trim the tree. I'm about to get the things for the tree after
this because it's bare. … I'm super dad. And it's only begun."
I! I! I! I! Once he stops talking about himself and realizes that there is
no I in WE then he will become super dad. He says he's a "family guy" but
he's only talking about himself and the diet he's on and the tree he is
trimming rather than talking about his family.

Fellow local talent Usher, on the other hand, says “all of the classics
were going at Christmas when I was growing up. My mom was playing the
Temptations, Donny Hathaway, all of that.”
And what are the first holidays like at the Raymonds this year- with their
first child at that? “Maaann, we can’t find an interior decorator. So
we’re basically just like singing ‘Kumbaya’ my Lord, eating on the floors.
I’m like ‘OK, I can’t get mad at [his new bride Tameka], because she just
had a baby.’ But there’s like a big tree sitting in the middle of the room
— not decorated.”
Usher Speaks Out (BarackTV)
Usher Becomes Family Guy
Source: Atlanta Journal Date: December 19, 2007
After a business lunch meeting Wednesday to discuss his partnership with
the National Hockey League, R&B's Usher took time out to talk to us about
being a family man as well as what's going on with him musically:
• What he's learning as a new father: "I think I'm learning how selfish I
really can be as an individual. Man, before you just get up and go
everyday and you work people to oblivion — and I do. But when you have a
child it's like, 'Wow!' All of this time now goes toward making sure that
one, he has the milk that he needs. He's being burped properly. Diapers
are being changed — and Lord knows he has let me have it! I am changing
diapers!"
Having had a son has made Usher realize 'how selfish I really can be as an
individual.'
• "The funniest thing ever was (Atlanta music mogul Jermaine Dupri)
watching me change a diaper. He was like, 'You're officially a daddy,
dog.' "
• While the Raymonds are figuring out how they will release the first baby
photos, Usher pulls a few from his wallet. One is a black and white he
took when his first child was born. "I've become an instant photographer,"
he offers. "Developing them and everything." Another shot is of Usher V
-
who may have more hair than daddy - during his first bath in the sink. "It
looks like he's posing doesn't it?" the admiring father says. "I wonder
where he gets that from? He's going to be a lady-killer!"
• What he's learning as a new husband: "Just to be a little more patient.
Marriage is not a sprint, it's a marathon. You have to take your time and
be very patient. Sometimes you've got to breathe. Step away. Walk away
from each other. You'll drive each other crazy if you're not considerate
of that."
• What he's learning as a new dog owner: "That's my buddy right there! I
went and got a dog a week before I had my child. Crazy, huh? But his name
is Mr. Scottie Benson." (Scottie, he explains, because the standard
schnauzer's facial hair is similar to Scottie from the R&B group the
Whispers. And Benson because "he's kind of like a butler. They can be
somewhat uppity dogs. Very intelligent dogs.")
"He almost got me thrown out of the house last night though, because he
peed on the carpet."
• Getting a Grammy nomination earlier this month, and he doesn't even have
a new CD out: "Shoot, I'm winning even in my sleep ... even in
hibernation. That's a heck of a compliment."
• When he'll finally have a new CD out: "I've been diligently working on
creating a masterpiece. It's going to be out first or maybe the second
quarter. I see the second quarter of next year. And there will be a video
and single out at the top of the year."
(Usher added that a collaboration with Michael Jackson and Atlanta
rapper-singer T-Pain is in early stages. "It's been created, but it's not
recorded. And as long as Michael is open to it, hey, anything goes.")

How Much Is That Celebrity in the Window?
Source: ABC News
Date: December 7, 2007
That all depends on your wallet and the value of your guest's star stock.
In the thriving rent-a-celebrity business, the price tag for having a
celeb drop by is a telling barometer of who's hot and who's not.
R&B and pop artist Usher, who once earned $1 million for a private
appearance, can now get only $175,000, booking agencies say.
The mother of R&B star Usher's baby boy has lashed out at the singer's
jealous fans, who have made her life a misery, since the couple
announced its engagement. Tameka Foster, who wed Usher in September (07)
and gave birth to their son last week, can't believe how the
black media and black women, in particular, have turned on her. She
insists her love for the Yeah! hitmaker is for real, despite claims she's
using Usher to boost her fashion empire.

Usher and Tameka Foster: Essence Mag Excerpts
Usher on how the media and bloggers reacted negatively to the news of his
engagement to Tameka Foster:
"It was like, wow. (Getting married) and having a child is something that
everyone should celebrate. What’s happened to us as a culture and a
people? I’m not ignorant, so I’m not going to go out there and lash out…."
Usher on how he and Tameka have stayed strong:
"Ours is not a typical love story, but it is a true one. Tameka and I have
been fortunate enough to go through the thick of it in the beginning.
We’ve had that opportunity to huddle up as a team, to make sure that we’re
clear and speak as one voice."
Tameka on when she knew to trust her instincts, instead of her
girlfriends, about starting a relationship with her future husband:
"Thank God I didn’t listen to my girlfriends…. Usher was my road dawg. I’d
seen him love, and I’d watched him date women who were not worthy of him.
He was so sweet, going out of his way to cater to their every need. And
I’d see them not even be grateful."
Usher on what he’s learned about becoming a father:
"Tameka’s given me one of the greatest gifts I’ll ever have. With a child,
now I have purpose. I understand love."
Tameka on falling for her husband:
"I feel totally uninhibited with Usher. I’ve never been in a situation
with anyone, even as far back as high school, where there were no secrets.
I know I can tell him anything and he’s not going to judge me. I can
finally share my dreams. And because of that, I know that man loves me."
Usher's Next Album: Scuttled by Baby Mama
Source: Sun
Times Date: October 11, 2007
Two of the key women in R&B star and actor Usher's life are at it again.
The entertainer's mother, Jonnetta Patton, supposedly had a screaming
match with his wife, Tameka Foster, after learning Usher had dropped plans
to release a new record because Foster insisted he take a break from his
career to concentrate on her and their baby, a son who's due in December.
Patton despises Foster for getting her fired as her son's manager but
didn't hesitate to call her daughter-in-law to tell her she "is doing a
great job destroying a talented artist's fantastic career."
According to a source who was present, Foster said nothing, then snapped
her cell phone shut, thus ending the one-sided conversation.

York Post Date: October 10, 2007
For those who were holding their breath waiting for Usher's new album,
it's time to exhale. Industry insiders told Page Six that though the R&B
star had been planning to drop a record next month, "it's not happening
anymore" due to "issues in his personal life" relating to new wife Tameka
Foster. According to the source, "Usher only listens to Tameka now, and
she wants all Usher's focus to be on her and the baby." The couple, who
wed in August, are expecting later this year. Bailing on the album may not
have been a wise decision on his part, however, especially because other
money-making ventures - like the launch of his new fragrances - were
scheduled to coincide with the new disc. "The album had been in the works
for over a year," the insider dished. "He put it on the back burner when
Tameka got pregnant .... now it looks like it's never going to happen."
