Usher's mother has been his manager since he was a teen, but now the superstar says he wants her to be just "mom."
 

The Grammy winner confirmed Monday that Jonnetta Patton is no longer in charge of his career, but denied the break was due to any rift.

"She and I are on great terms and support each other in our life's endeavors. We are both very happy but are now working in different areas of the business," he said in a statement to The Associated Press. "This is great for me because it means I now get to have my mother strictly as my mother with no added pressure."

Usher said he believed that by ending his professional relationship with his mother, it would bring them closer.

"At this time in my life, I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family. And in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life," he said.

This is the second major change this year for Usher, 28. In March, he announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, stylist Tameka Foster.

Rumors have swirled that Foster would replace Patton as Usher's manager, but the singer said: "She has no aspirations of becoming my manager or any other artist's manager."

Usher is slated to release the follow-up to 2004's "Confessions," which sold 9 million copies in the United States, later this year.

What a way to spend Mother's Day.

Speaking of mothers: Tameka Foster, the 38-year-old divorced mother of three who is now engaged to the 28-year-old multi-platinum-selling, multiple Grammy Award winning R&B superstar, is believed to be the new Capo of the House of Usher.

"Tameka has a hold over him," one alleged "friend" told the 'New York Daily News' this week. "Nobody can figure it out. Some people think he may make Tameka his manager."

Whoa.

Another infamous black momager once told me years ago that "nothing is stronger than pillow talk."

Patton, who celebrated her 50th birthday at a lavish soiree last month, has been reportedly romantically linked to a man named Eric Carr, a 36-year-old well-to-do former professional pugilist turned tycoon. According to Wikipedia, the Houston native is a 1993 Golden Globes champ, who has one child from a previous relationship. He and Patton are reportedly engaged.

No one has really confirmed if a fall-out occurred between mom and son, but Usher's longtime publicist Simone Smalls confirmed that she, herself, is no longer working for him -- after a near decade-long association. The esteemed Vice President of New York's Susan Blond publicity firm remains in close company to Patton and said that she will not be releasing a statement about her son.

Now I'm not going to say that Usher is throwing "mama from the train," but all arrows are pointing to that.

His former record company publicist Chris Chambers, who also works OutKast, Jill Scott and Mya, said he thinks Usher may have hired power publicist Patti Webster, whose client roster includes Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Patti LaBelle, Ludacris and Kimberly Locke, among others.

Webster has not confirmed or denied her involvement in Usher's revamped management efforts.

This ousted momager business couldn't have come at a worst time, though.

Patton, once described as "rotund" and "jovial" in a legendary 'Vibe' magazine cover story penned by 'New York Times' reporter Lola Ogunnaike, is the subject of an E! Television special, 'Raising Celebrity: Tales of Hollywood Moms,' premiering on May 13 --that's Mother's Day!

Known as one of the most successful (and stable) stage moms in the business, Patton talks tough throughout the hour-long special, which also features an exclusive interview with Lindsay Lohan's tabloid-ready mother Dina Lohan.

"You wear two hats, but you never take off the mother's hat," Patton is quoted as saying.

"If you're hanging with your kid in the club and you're doing the same thing that your kid's doing, then how could you demand the respect, so, I think it's important that the parent always set the example," she commented.

She doled out other advice too.

"As a parent in the business that manages the child, I will say be the leader, not the follower."

R. Kelly and Usher have both been called the King of R&B. Now it turns out they have more in common than just that: The same woman has been calling them her lover.

The singers' first duet, "Same Girl," hit the Internet Wednesday night. On the track, Kells and Ush find out they've been played. The record is in the form of a conversation between the two, during which the stars discover the truth and ultimately conspire to call the lady out on her lies.

Kelly starts off describing his fictitious girlfriend, who he is madly in love with and wants to marry. She lives in Atlanta, drives a black Durango and has a tattoo on her ankle. Usher then interjects, giving his own set of details about the woman: She works for TBS, has a child and went to Georgia Tech University. A stunned Pied Piper confirms everything, to Usher's dismay.

"So man, you telling me you know her?" Kelly asks.

"Do I know her? Like a pastor knows his Word," Usher responds.

In the song, it turns out Usher met the woman at a party in Atlanta, while Kelly met her at a party in Chicago.

"I even got some pictures on my phone," Usher later sings.

"Looka there, there she is with some boy-shorts on," R. responds.

According to his label, Jive Records, "Same Girl" will appear on Kelly's May 29 LP, Double Up.

Usher could have quite a Mother's Day surprise for his mom, Jonnetta Patton. The R&B superstar may be easing her out as his manager, according to insiders.

The muscle behind the putsch is said to be Usher's fiancée, Tameka Foster.

"They definitely don't get along," one spy tells us. "Tameka came to Jonnetta's birthday on April 6. They hugged and posed for photos, but it was all for the cameras."

The rift dates back to when Jonnetta encouraged Usher to fire Tameka as his stylist. "Tameka went on the radio and took some shots at Jonnetta," says a source.

But Usher, 28, still liked Tameka, 38, and vice versa. In fact, she ended up leaving her husband for him. (Reps are denying she's pregnant.)

"Tameka has a hold over him," says one friend. "Nobody can figure it out. Some people think he may make Tameka his manager."

Execs at Jive, Usher's label, are said to be concerned. "They think Jonnetta's done an incredible job with his career. They're encouraging her to take on Britney Spears."

A rep for Usher scoffed at talk that he's firing his mom: "I don't know of any management changes at this time."

Meanwhile, a source says Stuff editors are furious at Usher for "backing out" as host of the mag's Kentucky Derby party on Friday. "They originally wanted Justin Timberlake, but someone talked them into going with Usher," says the tipster. A Stuff staffer denies all of the above and says cover model Taryn Manning will host the bash.

Sitting in Jermaine Dupri's Southside Studios, a place where Usher has made so many of his hit records over the past 10 years, the singer was as blunt as ever about the music industry now that his album-making hiatus is over.

"I feel like these kids have gotten a little too disrespectful, and I'm about to get [back in there], so just be ready," he said with a smile.

It's all well and good when they pay homage, but what gets him fired up is when they don't give him props.

"Well, for instance, you got your artists who find their way through the circuit and are following and are not giving the respect where the respect is due. Even though songs are circulating that people claim come from Usher's new album, the singer says that's not the case.

He told MTV News, "A lot of music has been coming out on the Web, I even heard a couple of new old songs from my last album on the radio."

"Don't get it confused, if you hear any of my stuff just floating around it may be underground stuff that just got leaked or something like that, 'cause I always stay creative with the team. But this album, when it's time for you to hear it, you'll hear it."

Patton celebrated her 50th birthday in Atlanta last week with a party attended by Usher (who's 28) and his fiancee, Tameka Foster. Foster told friends at the event that she is not pregnant. However, this conflicts with two sources close to Usher's camp who independently told me that she is with child.

Some have even speculated that the pregnancy might be a holdover from her complicated relationship with former husband Ryan Glover. Guess we'll find out in a few months!

If you put one of your songs on him it is going to make him even better. Dupri Says 'It's All About The Magic'

Jermaine Dupri says hook for 'The Realest' came from talking with singer about his lady love.

These days, Usher is busy listening to new bass lines and drumbeats being offered up by producers vying to have him sing on their tracks.

The singer is back in the studio working on his new album, but as MTV News recently reported, he'll be hearing another type of music in the not-too-distant future: wedding bells. He's engaged to stylist Tameka Foster.

"When you find the right one, you don't wanna live your life without her — you wanna make sure you have a real partner," said Usher when asked what made him pop the question. "I think every man wants to have that partner in life he can share the hottest moments with — the one that is down with you in the clutch and keeps it real and keeps you in check if things ain't right."

Usher says he and Foster have been engaged since the beginning of 2007, although he's not sure exactly when he'll be walking down the aisle. "Nah, the date ain't set yet," he said. "I'm so caught up in the everyday, focused on music. But it's gonna happen before the end of the year."

The music Usher is focused on, he said, is about six months away from being finished, and he wants to release an album around November. Being happily in love has definitely served as inspiration for at least one track.

"Most of the time with Usher it's about the magic," producer Jermaine Dupri said of working with his longtime friend and collaborator. " Even the concept of making records is different with Usher. For the first month or so of us being in the studio, it's all mostly conversation to drive me to that point where I go into the room and hear something that clicks.

"The Realest is actually one of the first songs that we did," Dupri continued. "It was pretty much what he was on. He was like, 'I got the realest woman in the world. You ever had the realest woman in the world? You ever have a real one?' That was how he was talking to me. And within the hour, I heard what we should be saying in the hook, and he was like, 'Yeah, let's go.' "

Another muse for Usher's new album is the music game itself.

"Music is somewhat in a box right now, 'cause everybody is trying to follow the same thing," he said. "But then you have those artists that try to cut through — artists that really take a risk. Artists like Robin Thicke. Artists like Musiq Soulchild. I just heard great reviews about his album. Artists that are willing to take a chance and try to go into a new territory and not be afraid to do something different."

Usher says he's definitely going to be stepping on some new ground with the album but won't forget the fans who helped him reach the top.

Baby I attended the Birthday party of all birthday parties this pass weekend. Usher's mom Jonetta Patton, or JPAT celebrated her 50th birthday on Friday, but her birthday is this week. Now I know what you all want to know, “was Tameka Foster there,” hold on, the night belonged to Miss Patton, so her first. It was held at The InterContinental Hotel Buckhead. Now I don’t drink or eat seafood, but I did both at this party for some strange reason I was acting a lil differently. But anyway, the cocktail receptions started at 8 pm and dinner was served at 9. The room was dressed in white roses and white lilies, so beautiful. All of the guests were asked to wear formal attire, men black tie, women black gowns or white gowns.

Some people received invitations and some didn’t, because they had on some of everything and maybe that’s why I’m drinking because I’m dressed like a dude, but any way the cocktail reception was held outside the ballroom where the dinner and the rest of the evenings festivities were being held. Miss Patton arrived looking every bit of the Diva that she is, in a red gown. Glowing as the lady of the hour, with her date which we later learned was her new fiancé, that explains the extra glow.

Once we were seated at our assigned tables the suspense was building is Tameka Foster coming with Usher or not, his new girl friend. I see Ambassador Andrew Young and his wife, I see Vernon Jones and his girl friend, I see Jermaine Dupri, but is Tameka Foster coming with Usher or not.

Baby, at exactly 10:07.36 sec they arrived. And of course all eyes are on the two of them, however some people don’t even know that they are in the room, because all kind of conversations are going on, but eventually the word gets around the room. Look they are here. Tameka go over and hug Jpat and everybody is holding their breath, then she and Usher are greeting other guests, now it’s time to take pictures. Thank you JimiFlix. Now you know me I want to see where she is going to be standing in the photographs.

She and Usher are on the end, and then there is this moment when I think that she and Usher are getting ready to take a picture with his mom, Usher stands next to his mother for the picture and Tameka Foster heads out the door. With out Usher and without security. So now I know why I’m drinking these red Martinis, because I’m getting ready to go and get a V-103 exclusive.

I said to my friend Alvin and our morning show producer Nina Brown, let’s go, I could not believe that I’m having a paparazzi moment. So I tell Nina go and see if she is in the restroom and Nina went in and said “I’m Nina Brown the producer of the Frank & Wanda Morning Show” Tameka’s exact words to her were “your show, where is that Miss Sophia, I want to meet Miss Sophia” and she came out of the restroom and it was on and poppin.

She said yes I’m Tameka and y’all are always saying nasty things about me, as if there is not a person on the other side of those comments. I said well, I’m only reporting what’s out there and if you have a problem with what’s being reported about you then I extend to you the same offer that I extend to all of the ATL artists, come on the show and tell your story yourself. She says why should I come on the show I’m talking to you right now, so you go on there and be nice, because I love you, my sisters love you and I think you are very funny, but be nice I have three kids all boys and I have not left them as it is being reported and I am not pregnant. As a matter of fact let me go and get my girls, because they want to meet you as well, but she didn’t. Then I asked her to call the station and she said that she couldn’t, because she did want to start answering to the press every time a different rumor surfaced about her and she didn’t want to be recorded and besides Usher would not respect her actions if she did that. And now I feel her starting to warm up to me, because we are really having a conversation as tho we are girl friends.

She also went on to say that she is cool people, she is from Oakland, CA a down to earth girl and she is 36 years old and not 40 and she love all of the queens, she has a lot of queen friends. She even said that she worked with Patti Labelle for a while and Patti is very upset with all of the negative things that are being said about her, she even said that Patti want to go and beat some people up for her. So now I’m feeling like we are having a hello Barbara this is Shirley moment, because she is speaking at her own free will, she told me to tell y’all that she is not pregnant, she is not a gold digger she has her own money, she has not given her children away to their father, she is not nor was she ever pregnant for her ex-husband, she is not rushing to marry Usher for any other reason other than they are in love, Usher love her children as much as she does, Usher is not doing this to promote his new album, because he is a very talented young man and he don’t have to do that, she is pretty and she is a diva, so there I told y’all.

Then we took pictures with her and I must admit that she is a fun person. Now I can’t believe that we have talked to her all this time and no one has come looking for her and no one is interrupting our conversation. We hugged and said our goodbyes and as we were walking away she called me back and said Miss Sophia “I am going to have Usher’s kids one day, because I love him that much and he loves me and trust me Miss Sophia when I get pregnant I’m not going to hide it, I will be walking around rubbing on my belly telling everybody I’m carrying his baby, now go and enjoy the rest of the evening and remember be nice, so I gave her my card and told her to call me or send me an e-mail, y’all she really is a fun person full of personality and I think that we are going to be girlfriends. I even asked her about her relationship with Usher’s mom and she said that they were fine, if not she would not be at the party, but I did notice that the only time they had any interaction with each other was when she and Usher first arrived at the party.

Then there was a special poem read in honor of Miss Patton. After which Usher took to the stage to pay tribute to his mom, made a toast and announced her new fiancé. Then the big moment arrived when he gave his mom her birthday gift. He introduced Frankie Beverly & Maze. The place went crazy and the birthday girl and her new fiancé danced the whole time. It was getting late so as I was getting ready to leave I spotted JD so like I said I’ve been drinking and I’m feeling good, so on my way out the door I go over to J D and say you need to start coming to the staff meetings, you know he on the air on Saturdays from 9 pm until 10 pm. And he said I’m not on staff and you and Wanda better stop talking about me on that radio, then he said these people don’t know who you are in here dressed like that I’m tell ‘em who you are. That’s how you get all the dirt on people sneaking in these parties dressed like that, but I’m tell ‘em who you are. I said it’s too late I’m leaving, so I’m official a member of the stalking paparazzi. Miss Patton, thanks for all of the love and the invitations to celebrate your 50th birthday with you, and may God bless you to have many more. Congratulations with your new fiancé as well.

R&B and pop singer and actor Usher Raymond IV is launching a duo of fragrances named Usher She and Usher He. The scents were formulated by Firmenich in collaboration with Usher and developed by perfumers Honorine Blanc and Richard Herpin.

Usher She was composed by both Honorine Blanc and Richard Herpin and "has top notes of red currant, pink freesia and apple blossom; a heart of frangipani, apricot nectar, blooming jasmine and passion rose, and a drydown of amber wood, sensual musk, cashmere wood, vanilla orchid and incense." Usher He "...developed with Herpin, has top notes of verbena, pineapple and melon; a heart of blue lavender, white pepper and violet leaf, and a drydown of vetiver, amber wood, black suede, sandalwood, sensual musk and guaiac wood."

Usher said that the women's scent "represents a woman of mystery and confidence; a woman who exudes sexuality. The masculine counterpart "for me, represents something I would wear — with everything from a tux to a pair of jeans."

The flacons' caps and necks were inspired by a spinning ring that the singer wears.

The R & B superstar next plans to develop fashion lines and he sees the fragrance launch as a first step in that direction.

"The women's lineup will consist of eaux de parfum in two sizes, 1.7 ounces for $52 and 3.4 ounces for $68. A 0.5-oz. parfum will retail for $120, and three ancillaries will be offered: a body lotion, $38 for 6.7 ounces; body cream, $45 for 6.7 ounces, and a shower gel, $35 for 6.7 ounces. The men's collection will include eaux de toilette in two sizes, 1.7 ounces for $50 and 3.4 ounces for $65. A concentrated eau de toilette will retail for $95. Four ancillaries will be sold: after shave tonic, $45 for 3.4 ounces; after shave balm, $40 for 3.4 ounces; deodorant, $16 for 2.6 ounces, and shower gel, $25 for 6.7 ounces."

The performer, who uses only his first name professionally, is readying a fragrance masterbrand that will hit stores in September.

Yesterday, the entire entertainment world was buzzing on reports that Usher's fiancé, Tameka Foster, was pregnant.

MediaTakeOut.com spoke exclusively with a key source in the Usher camp - who confirmed to us that the couple is expecting their first child. According to our mole, "[Usher and Tameka] love each other and Usher is ready to start a family with her."

And the insider blasted reports that Tameka's baby might have been fathered by anyone other than Usher. The source explained, "There's no way that the baby isn't Usher's. From what I understand, the pregnancy was planned ... I think [Tameka] may have even used fertility drugs [to conceive]."

But that's not the most startling revelation that the insider made. According to our source, Tameka's pregnancy is extremely high risk. Tells the tipster, "Right now, they don't want to get anyone's hopes up since it's very early [in the pregnancy] ... I wouldn't expect an announcement for at least a couple of months."

Tameka and Usher are scheduled marry in November - shortly before the release of Usher's next album. Tameka is 39 years old and has three children from her first marriage.

OK folks. Y'all know I ONLY report ish that holds water. The rumor mill is right this time around....Tameka is indeed pregnant. But there's more to the story according to 3 of my extremely credible sources who all have personal relationships with Usher. Tameka is reportedly four months pregnant and the father of the child is her ex-husband Ryan Glover's. NOT Usher's.

I first reported here on YBF that Usher and Tameka were back together back in February when he started bringing her to every event he attended. Tameka was actually pregnant before she and Usher reconciled their relationship--explaining their speedy and suspicious engagement. Usher is indeed playing himself because he is about to come out pretty soon about the baby and will claim it as his own. And of course Tameka will let him because he's her meal ticket and her way into the fashion game she's so desperately trying to enter. My sources say he consistently does things like this to manipulate the media (surprise, surprise) into following his every move so that he can hit platinum and "most coveted" status in no time. Hence his new album dropping in November right along with this real speedy and suspicious wedding to Tameka that will definitely go down at the same time.

This saga is reminiscent of he and Chilli's breakup, her being in his videos, and him coinciding the dropping of certain singles from Confessions with his breakup with Chilli to make people talk. The secret is out! Usher and Tameka are expecting a baby sometime before the end of the year. The couple will exchange vows in November according to Usher's publicist, but the publicist left out one small detail: Tameka is pregnant.

I got the word this morning from an upper level music industry source who has provided rock solid information to Sandrarose.com in the past. My inside source informed me that Usher and Tameka broke the news to Usher's mom and to Tameka's ex-husband, clothier Ryan Glover. Ryan and Tameka share custody of their three children. Their amicable divorce was finalized earlier this year.

Elaborate custom invitations have gone out to the private birthday party that Usher is throwing for his mom Jonetta Patton this weekend in Atlanta. The baby will be Jonetta's first grandchild. I'm told the invites are designed to look like Roman scrolls. Will Usher and Tameka use that occasion to make the official announcement about their bundle of joy? We'll soon find out!

"I have a few scripts that are looking good, but in a shock move I have given the gym a wide berth in order to bulk up and land the sort of roles that I think are more suited to my age," he said. As the old hip-hop saying goes, it's official like a referee with a whistle: Usher confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday night that he is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, stylist Tameka Foster.

"I'm engaged now," he said, smiling. The Grammy winner even said he could be walking down the aisle before the end of this year.

Rumors of Usher's pending nuptials have been floating around for a little over a month. Photos of Usher and Foster — with a rock on her finger — have also made the rounds, but on Wednesday night, he confirmed the information publicly for the first time.

Another milestone in the singer's life is the release of his next album. Usher is back in full recording mode and says that he's aiming to have the album in stores by November.

"We're still trying to find the title," Usher said, standing in the vocal booth of Jermaine Dupri's So So Def studios, which was a hive of activity on Wednesday night: While Usher and JD talked over album business, Bow Wow played basketball on the studio's indoor court.

Of course, Usher also got some work in. First, at his home studio, he listened to tracks from his younger brother James "J. Lack" Lackey (Lloyd's "Get It Shawty"), who'll be joining JD as a producer on the new album. He then traveled across town for another session with hitmakers Dre and Vidal (Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Justin Timberlake). Finally, the singer worked with JD until a little after 2 a.m.

Usher said he feels that music is a little stagnant these days, but wants his fans and peers to know that "daddy's home."

Celebrity stylist Tameka Foster and clothier Ryan Glover's divorce was finalized yesterday (3/13). Elle Duncan of the Ryan Cameron Show made the announcement during the Ryan Report 5 minutes ago.

 

A few months ago, I reported that I received a phone call from Ryan's attorney requesting photos of Tameka and Usher together.

The divorce was finalized yesterday, clearing the way for Tameka and Usher to marry. Tameka and Ryan will share custody of their children.
